The 34th edition of The International Festival of Theatre Schools SETKÁNÍ/ENCOUNTER
The 34th edition of The International Festival of Theatre Schools SETKÁNÍ/ENCOUNTER, organized by the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts, is on the way. Save these dates: from the 16th of April to the 20th of April 2024.
The 34th edition of the International Festival of Theatre Schools SETKÁNÍ/ENCOUNTER will take place in April of this year. This year's theme is The Storm.
"The Storm is coming. One, two, three... We need to shake it off and get ready for the next one. A storm is unpleasant while it lasts – but after it comes a rainbow. The air clears, and we can breathe again in peace.
Maybe it is time to get used to the fact that sometimes it just rains. If you cover your ears, lightning will kill you anyway. Perhaps we've forgotten how to resist. Maybe we’ve forgotten that we have to fight discomfort, not hide from it. There is no calm, only storm. And that's why we want to unleash a storm – especially a creative one - at our festival."
This year, the faculty is giving more authority and power to its students – that is why this year's festival director is Mgr. Sonja Špačková, a student of Theater Management.
As always, the festival venues will be Divadlo Husa na provázku and Sklepní scéna CED, as well as the faculty’s theatres: Divadlo na Orlí and Studio Marta. For this year'’s edition, actor Jaromír Nosek, a graduate of musical acting at JAMU, has agreed to be the face of the festival and will also appear in the festival TV advert.

This project is co-financed by the governments of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia through Visegrad grants from the International Visegrad Fund. Furthermore, the festival is being held with the financial support of the Statutory City of Brno and the State Fund for Culture of the Czech Republic; the festival is under the auspices of the Governor of the South Moravian Region.
