This year marked the successful 36th edition of the International Festival of Theatre Schools SETKÁNÍ/ENCOUNTER 2026, held from April 14 to April 18, 2026, at the Theatre Faculty of the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts, as well as at venues of Brno theatres including Studio Marta, Theatre on Orlí Street, The Goose on a String Theatre, and HaDivadlo.

Polovinou měsíce dubna Brno roztočila spirála kreativity, umění a divadla v podobě Mezinárodního festivalu divadelních škol SETKÁNÍ/ENCOUNTER.

V letošním roce úspěšně proběhl 36. ročník Mezinárodního festivalu divadelních škol SETKÁNÍ/ENCOUNTER 2026, a to v termínu od 14. 4.–18. 4. 2026 v prostorách Divadelní fakulty Janáčkovy akademie múzického umění a dále i v prostorách brněnských divadel Studia Marta, Divadla na Orlí, Divadla Husa na provázku a HaDivadla.

The spiral that resonates on: SETKÁNÍ/ENCOUNTER 2026 Celebrates the Pure Soul of Art

The 36th International Festival of Theatre Schools SETKÁNÍ/ENCOUNTER centred this year around the themes of the Soul and the Spiral. and the festival achieved something on Saturday night that few might have expected. It blurred the line between the auditorium and the stage so completely that not a single mere ‘observer’ remained in the hall.

Spirála, která rezonuje dál. Festival SETKÁNÍ/ENCOUNTER 2026 připomněl čistou duši umění

36. ročník Mezinárodního festivalu divadelních škol SETKÁNÍ/ENCOUNTER, který se letos točil kolem tématu duše a spirály, dokázal v sobotu večer něco, co možná málokdo očekával. Smazal hranici mezi hledištěm a jevištěm natolik, že v sálu nezůstal jediný pouhý pozorovatel.

Irenka: A Century in Five Minutes

At the international theatre festival Encounter, visitors had the opportunity to see work by students from our department of audiovisual arts. The first film screened in the series was Irenka, an almost five-minute-long photo film about the filmmaker’s great-grandmother. Through a series of brief episodes, it recounts the story of her father, who fought in the First World War, her own life during the Protectorate and the years that followed, as well as her reflections on and anxieties about the world to come. The photographs capture a small, meticulously kept flat, with its carefully organised bookcase, antique glassware, and crossword puzzles – her great passion. Their conversations are mediated through a tablet, which serves as a bridge between the filmmaker and her great-grandmother, whose hearing has significantly deteriorated.
