SETKÁNÍ/ENCOUNTER je mezinárodní festival divadelních škol s více než třicetiletou tradicí. Jedinečnost festivalu spočívá v tom, že hlavní organizátory tvoří studenti Divadelní fakulty Janáčkovy akademie múzických umění.

SETKÁNÍ/ENCOUNTER

For over thirty years, the festival has been connecting young artists from around the world, offering them a space for sharing, communication and mutual inspiration. It is also unique in that its organisation traditionally remains entirely in the hands of students from the JAMU Theatre Faculty, giving the festival authenticity and the courage to experiment. Through 2025, the festival has hosted ensembles from more than 40 countries and 4 continents and, thanks to its international reach and emphasis on quality, it is one of the most significant events of its kind in Europe.&nbsp;&nbsp;Each year of the festival has its own original theme, which forms the visual identity of the entire festival, and its selection is entirely up to students. The theme unites us and inspires us to create and think about the contemporary world, which is why this year’s theme chosen is Spiral – as a symbol of movement, growth and the constant return to the essence.&nbsp;"Spiral as both a surface and a space. A surface for stagnation, and a space for constant transformation. It can be a rise to new understanding, or a fall into the rabbit hole. A spiral, or a spinning circle? Are we trapped inside, or is it leading us forward? It depends on the point of view. From which side do you look at me? Do I still have the same shape? Do you see me as a fixed point, or do I keep shifting before your eyes? Look closely. Once you see me, we’ll spin together. Round and round. Round and round. Into infinity. Can you find where I end? To encounter the threshold between horizontal and vertical. Between beginning and end. To burrow deep. All the way to the core. Each step along the spiral moves us forward – and yet, we return to where we began. But are we still the ones who once stepped in?"A festival of this calibre is the result of collaboration between the team of Theatre Production students. They form the Core Organising Team headed by The Festival Director Kateřina Halamíčková. The Core Organizing Team is responsible for all key areas of the festival – from communication with guests, judges and ensembles, through technical support and production, to promotion, media coverage and the accompanying programme. Thanks to joint decision-making and shared responsibility, the festival functions as a collective project, created through the work and dedication of the entire team.&nbsp;An integral part of the festival are our ambassadors – prominent theatre personalities associated with the Theatre Faculty of JAMU. This year’s faces of the festival are Kamila Polívková and Tomáš Weber.&nbsp;Kamila Polívková Kamila Polívková is a Czech theater director, set designer, and costume designer also working abroad. She lives by the motto “less is more” and is interested in the inner worlds of characters who do not fit into the conventional norms. She is very happy to take on the role of festival ambassador because she loves theater, encounters, and Brno. Let´s meet and enjoy!&nbsp;Tomáš Weber is Czech film and theatre actor. “Hey! My name is Tom and I’m a theatre and film actor. I’ve acted in Waves, Zlatovláska, High School Heist and for this year’s edition of the festival SETKÁNÍ/ENCOUNTER I’m going to be the ambassador. Meeting new people, new artists, different styles from different countries is so super important for your artistic development, as it was for mine. Ciao!”Although the main programme of the festival is not scheduled<s>r</s> until April next year, the first accompanying event of the 36th edition – the ENC: ICY WHIRL Christmas party – took place on 8 December at Kabinet MÚZ. The evening programme was provided by three bands of different genres – Na Kolejích Kočka, The Queues and Caramel, whose music kept us on the dance floor. It was an extraordinary musical experience that we will not soon forget. The International Festival of Theatre Schools SETKÁNÍ/ENCOUNTER 2026 returns to Brno

Tento festival již přes třicet let propojuje mladé tvůrce z celého světa a nabízí jim prostor pro sdílení, komunikaci i vzájemnou inspiraci. Výjimečný je i tím, že organizace tradičně zůstává plně v rukou studentů Divadelní fakulty JAMU, čímž festival získává autenticitu i odvahu experimentovat. Festival do roku 2025 hostil soubory z více než 40 zemí a 4 kontinentů<s>,</s> a díky mezinárodnímu přesahu a důrazu na kvalitu patří mezi výraznou událost<s>í</s> svého druhu v Evropě. &nbsp;Každý ročník festivalu má své originální téma, které tvoří vizuální identitu celému festivalu, jehož výběr záleží čistě na studentech. Téma nás spojuje, je naší inspirací k tvorbě a přemýšlení o současném světě, a proto bylo pro letošní rok vybráno téma: Spirála – jako symbol pohybu, růstu a neustálého návratu k podstatě všeho.&nbsp;"Spirála je plocha i prostor. Plocha pro stagnaci a prostor pro neustálou proměnu. Může být vzestupem k novému poznání i pádem do králičí nory. Spirála, nebo točící se kruh? Jsme v ní uvězněni, nebo nás vede dál? Záleží na úhlu pohledu.&nbsp; Z jaké strany se na mě podíváš? A budu mít stále stejný tvar? Vnímáš mě jako pevný bod, nebo se ti neustále proměňuji před očima? Podívej se pořádně. Až mě uvidíš, budeme se spolu točit dokolečka. Dokolečka dokola. Do nekonečna. Dokážeš najít můj konec?&nbsp; Setkat se na hranici mezi horizontálou a vertikálou. Mezi začátkem a koncem. Zavrtat se hluboko. Až do samého středu. Každý krok po spirále nás posouvá vpřed – a přesto se vracíme tam, odkud jsme přišli. Ale jsme ještě těmi, kdo kdysi vykročili?"Festival takového formátu je výsledkem spolupráce organizačního týmu studentů Divadelní produkce. Ti tvoří úzký organizační tým (ÚOT), v jehož čele stojí ředitelka festivalu Kateřina Halamíčková. ÚOT zajišťuje všechny klíčové oblasti festivalu – od komunikace s hosty, porotci a soubory, přes technické zajištění a produkci, až po propagaci, mediální výstupy a doprovodný program. Díky společnému rozhodování a sdílené odpovědnosti funguje festival jako kolektivní projekt, který vzniká díky práci a nasazení celého týmu. .&nbsp;Nedílnou součástí festivalu jsou i naši ambasadoři – výrazné osobnosti divadla spjaté s Divadelní fakultou JAMU. Letošními tvářemi festivalu se stali Kamila Polívková a Tomáš Weber.&nbsp;Kamila Polívková je česká divadelní režisérka, scénografka a kostýmní výtvarnice, která působí i v zahraničí. Řídí se heslem „méně je více“ a zajímají ji vnitřní světy postav nezapadajících do běžných společenských norem. Byl to mimořádný hudební zážitek, na který jen tak nezapomeneme. Mezinárodní festival divadelních škol SETKÁNÍ/ENCOUNTER se vrátí do Brna

Before the space officially opened to visitors, an internal meeting of the organizing team took place, bringing together students of theatre production and stage technology. The meeting was opened with welcoming remarks by Festival Director Kateřina Halamíčková and the Dean of the Theatre Faculty of JAMU, Professor Blanka Kolegar.&nbsp;The public programme began at 7:30 p.m. with a brief opening led by Festival Director Kateřina Halamíčková alongside Festival Economist Hana Severinová. In their speeches, they introduced the upcoming edition of the festival and invited guests to the International Festival of Theatre Schools SETKÁNÍ/ENCOUNTER 2026, which will take place from April 14 to 18, 2026.&nbsp;The musical programme of the evening was opened by the band Na kolejích kočka, whose energetic and playful performance immediately drew the audience into the festive atmosphere. Their catchy melodies, familiar to many in the crowd, set the tone for the evening from the very first minutes.&nbsp;They were followed by The Queues, who seamlessly picked up the momentum and further intensified the energy of the night. Enthusiastic reactions from the audience quickly spread to the dance floor, which soon filled with lively dance moves.&nbsp;The final musical act of the evening was Caramel, whose performance carried a distinctly personal touch. The band’s lead singer is a student at JAMU, a fact that was reflected in the close and natural connection with the audience, many of whom were already well acquainted with his work.&nbsp;The ENC Christmas Party thus offered not only a first taste of the festival atmosphere, but also a welcoming space for students, organizers, and the public to meet in a relaxed and friendly spirit.&nbsp;A big thank-you goes to all members of the OFF Programme team, whose work ensured the smooth preparation and execution of the evening. We are already looking forward to future meetings, parties, and activities that the International Festival of Theatre Schools SETKÁNÍ/ENCOUNTER 2026 will bring this April. ENC Christmas Party: Icy Whirl

Ještě před oficiálním otevřením prostoru pro návštěvníky se uskutečnilo interní setkání organizačního týmu složeného ze studentů divadelní produkce a jevištní technologie. Úvodní slovo zde pronesla ředitelka festivalu Kateřina Halamíčková a děkanka Divadelní fakulty JAMU, prof. Blanka Kolegar.&nbsp;Samotný program pro veřejnost odstartoval v 19:30. Krátkého zahájení se ujaly ředitelka festivalu Kateřina Halamíčková společně s ekonomkou festivalu Hanou Severinovou. Obě ve svých proslovech představily nadcházející ročník a pozvaly návštěvníky na Mezinárodní festival divadelních škol SETKÁNÍ/ENCOUNTER 2026, který se uskuteční v termínu 14.–18. dubna 2026.&nbsp;Hudební část večera otevřela kapela Na kolejích kočka, jejíž energický a hravý projev okamžitě vtáhl publikum do dění večera. Členové kapely vytvořili úžasnou atmosféru, která dala večírku jasný směr hned od prvních minut. Kapela si publikum získala svými chytlavými melodiemi, které někteří dobře znají.Po nich převzala pomyslné žezlo kapela The Queues, která svižně navázala a dál stupňovala energii večera. Nadšené reakce návštěvníků se rychle přenesly i na parket, který se zaplnil tanečními kreacemi.&nbsp;Závěr hudebního programu patřil kapele Caramel, jejíž vystoupení mělo výrazně osobní charakter. Hlavní zpěvák kapely je studentem JAMU, což se odrazilo i v bezprostředním propojení s posluchači, kteří jeho tvorbu dobře znali.&nbsp;Vánoční večírek Mezinárodního festivalu divadelních škol SETKÁNÍ/ENCOUNTER 2026 tak nabídl nejen první ochutnávku festivalové atmosféry, ale také prostor pro setkání studentů, organizátorů i veřejnosti v neformálním a přátelském duchu.&nbsp;Moc děkujeme všem členům sekce OFF program, kteří se podíleli na přípravě a hladkém průběhu večera. Už nyní se těšíme na další společná setkání, večírky a aktivity, které Mezinárodní festival SETKÁNÍ/ENCOUNTER 2026 v průběhu dubna nabídne. VÁNOČNÍ VEČÍREK ENC: ICY WHIRL

On Tuesday, November 11, 2025, the The Auxiliary Festival Board held its Teambuilding event.&nbsp;The International Festival of Theatre Schools SETKÁNÍ/ENCOUNTER 2026  is approaching fast. Preparations are well underway, and with them came our first official meeting of the organizing team – a Teambuilding evening held as part of the OFF programme.&nbsp;&nbsp;It was a wonderful evening that gave the entire team an opportunity to get to know each other better outside of the school environment and to enjoy cheerful moments together. Thanks to this gathering, we were able to recharge our energy and motivation for the challenging months ahead.&nbsp;The program for the evening was prepared by first-year Production students: Kateřina Řezáčová, Olivia Zwyrtek, and Matej Roch. The entire event took place at Desert Club, whose alternative interior enhanced the atmosphere of the evening and perfectly complemented the program.&nbsp;<component-embed-media src="https://s3.dualstack.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/mediaboard-publishing/blogs/cuYCnTzv3TUH1SAMi6DoA9Bi123eGnTv" alt="" visible_alt="true" url="" content_type="image/jpeg" type="image"></component-embed-media>After a long day, this evening offered everyone a chance to step out of the daily routine – and it’s no surprise that the program quickly picked up momentum.&nbsp; The evening was filled mainly with ice-breaking activities and games.&nbsp;&nbsp;The first of these was a modified version of the classic game Rock, Paper, Scissors. What was different about it? The winner would take their defeated opponent along to the next round as a fan, gradually forming entire fan teams. The final champion of the game was rewarded with a small gift – a candle and a tote bag.&nbsp;During the break, the organizers prepared another great activity: Icebreaker Bingo. Why “icebreaker”? The answer is simple – instead of classic bingo, participants had to find the authors of anonymous survey statements. The search turned out to be full of surprises, offering a unique opportunity to see our teammates in a new light. Often, these statements revealed things that might otherwise have remained secret. It’s no wonder the game captured everyone’s attention.&nbsp;The last official part of the program was the game Riskuj (the Czech version of Jeopardy!). This game revealed just how competitive the students of the Department of Theatre Production and Stage Technology could be. Emotions ran high, and the battle for victory was tense and exciting. For some, accepting defeat was difficult, while others celebrated their win enthusiastically.&nbsp;The final part of the evening unfolded in the spirit of free entertainment. Iconic hits from the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s filled the space. Singing and dancing soon took over, as small groups chatted, some played darts, and others joined in the lively music. The evening strengthened existing friendships and sparked brand-new ones.&nbsp;It’s a beautiful start to our journey, and I believe that thanks to the good mood and shared experiences, our collaboration will continue just as successfully as this wonderful evening…&nbsp;&nbsp;

November Teambuilding at JAMU – It’s Already Starting

V úterý 11. listopadu 2025 proběhl Teambuilding Malé festivalové rady.&nbsp;Mezinárodní festival divadelních škol SETKÁNÍ/ENCOUNTER 2026 se nám blíží. Přípravy jedou v plném proudu a k nim se nám pojí i setkání našeho organizačního týmu na teambuildingu, odehrávajícího se v rámci OFF programu. Byl to krásný večer, který se stal pro celý tým příležitostí se lépe poznat mimo školní prostory a užít si nepracovní společné chvilky. Díky tomuto setkání jsme mohli nabrat síly, energii a motivaci do následujících nabitých měsíců. &nbsp;Program pro tento večer si pod svá křídla vzali studenti 1. ročníku produkce: Kateřina Řezáčová, Olivia Zwyrtek a Matej Roch. Celý večer probíhal v prostorách klubu Desert, jehož alternativní interiér jen umocnil náladu společného setkání a podtrhl program celého večera.&nbsp;&nbsp;<component-embed-media src="https://s3.dualstack.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/mediaboard-publishing/blogs/22OP6eX46Rjn5VBNp6NMh6tGHlRAgUNC" alt="" visible_alt="true" url="" content_type="image/jpeg" type="image"></component-embed-media>Po náročném dni, který jsme mnozí měli za sebou, byl tento večer příležitostí, jak vystoupit z běžné rutiny, a proto není divu, že se program brzy rozjel naplno.&nbsp;&nbsp;Program večera byl založen zejména na seznamovacích aktivitách a hrách. První z nich byla upravená verze běžné hry Kámen, nůžky papír. V čem spočívala její modifikace? Zejména v tom, že výherce s sebou do další hry bral i svého poraženého protivníka, který se stal jeho fanouškem, takže postupně vznikaly fanouškovské týmy. Finální mistr ve hře byl na konci oceněn i drobnou pozorností.&nbsp;Na pauzu organizátoři nachystali další skvělou aktivitu – Seznamovací bingo. Ptáte se, proč seznamovací? Odpověď je jednoduchá. Místo klasického binga měli účastníci za úkol najít autory výroků z anonymní ankety. Hledání autorů se však ukázalo jako velice překvapivé. Poskytlo nám jedinečnou příležitost poznat členy našeho týmu v zcela novém světle. Často nám tyto výroky dokonce odhalily i věci, které by jindy nejspíše zůstaly zahaleny tajemstvím. Není tedy divu, že hra zaujala pozornost úplně každého.&nbsp;Poslední část večera se odehrávala v duchu volné zábavy. Nejrůznější vypalovačky z 80. a 90. let i přelomu tisíciletí naplnily prostory. Zpěv a tanec postupně ovládly všechny účastníky. Jednotlivé skupinky mezi sebou čile debatovaly, další účastníci hráli šipky či se naplno zapojili do zpěvu a tance. Díky tomuto večeru se utužila a upevnila některá přátelství, či začala vznikat přátelství zcela nová.&nbsp;Krásně nám to celé začíná a věřím, že díky dobré náladě a společným zážitkům bude následující spolupráce pokračovat stejně úspěšně jako tento večer.&nbsp;

Listopadový teambuilding na JAMU aneb Už nám to začíná

The workshop "Physical Training through Ganggangsullae", led by Subin Baek and Sangyeob Lee (South Korea), focused on a long tradition related to the Korean holiday Chuseok. The basic form was singing in a circle while holding hands, with a combination of games. Choreography based on Ganggangsullae was also used in the production of The Nape. In the sound workshop, Kamila Holíková (CZ) presented "Sonic Meditation by Pauline Oliveros", a tool for connection with compassion, imagination, and memories. The workshop "Singing and Rhythm", facilitated by Pavel Borský (CZ), was dedicated to the human body and breath, its rhythm, movement and perception of music. The last workshop, entitled "Choreographing Space - Creating Drift" and organized in cooperation with the <a target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener" class="Hyperlink SCXW155295272 BCX2" href="https://www.visegradfund.org/">International Visegrad Fund (IVF)</a> and facilitated by David Somló (Hungary), focused on exploring spatial composition and collective movement in public spaces using simple yet precise choreographic structures. The three-day workshop culminated in a public performance in the park at Moravian Square. There was also a "V4 Discussion", which focused on the censorship of art in the Visegrad Four countries in the context of historical development, the current geopolitical situation, and the challenges faced by people involved with culture.&nbsp;In addition to the main program, attendees could take in the festival’s Off- program, which included an opening performance in a public space, concerts, and parties, as well as the opening and closing ceremonies. The opening ceremony took place outdoors in the park on Moravské náměstí. It was followed by concerts by three bands: the Godfathers, Sycek, and MMNK. On the following nights, parties were held at the venues ArtBar Druhý Pád, Spektrum, and Kabinet Múz, where visitors could listen to the work of the bands Chora Sfakion, Pipesh, Chryzotil271, DJ C1UBCUB, Whyohwhy, Dukla, Hihihahaholky. The closing ceremony and the subsequent party were held, as is traditional, on the premises of The Goose on a String Theatre, where the bands Trin and Monte Cris B2B Cuntina played the accompaniment.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;This year’s jury consisted of three professionals and one theatrology student. The jury members were Claire Binyon (theatre director and ESMAE associate professor from Portugal), June Horton-White (Finnish light designer and technical producer), Gábor Koltai (Hungarian director, pedagogue and essayist), and Lada Hradilíková, a student in the master's degree programme in Theatre Studies and Polish Philology at Palacký University in Olomouc.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;During the closing ceremony, the jury awarded the Marta Awards in four categories chosen by the jury. In the category of Light Design, David Brabec (Janáček Academy of Performing Arts, Brno, Czech Republic) was awarded for the production “Bernarda Alba”. The jury appreciated his immaculate sense of dramaturgy and ingenious visual thinking. In the category of Best Stage Music, Anna Riabtseva (Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, Ukraine) received the award for the production “Psycha Buda” for setting the poems of the Bu-Ba-Bu Poetic Trio to music and performing them with the instrumental skills the entire collective has acquired during rehearsals, creating and uplifting and tearful cabaret of the Apocalypse around us and inside us. The Marta Award in the category of Acting was given to Julia Fidelus (The Aleksander Zelwerowicz National Academy of Dramatic Art in Warsaw, Branch Campus in Białystok, Poland) for portrayal of two complete and vibrant characters and creation of illusion in her performance “20 DEN” which causes the audience to believe that the relatable story she is telling is her own. In the category of Directing, the award was given to Yoojung Kim (Korea National University of Arts, Seoul, South Korea) for creating and directing a fully integrated performance “The Nape” incorporating all the elements of theatre in a beautiful, rhythmic and thought-provoking retelling of the ancient Greek stories making the bridge between the traditional Korean techniques of mask, dance and music and contemporary concerns.&nbsp;&nbsp;The festival would not have been possible without the financial support of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, the South Moravian Region, the State Cultural Fund of the Czech Republic, the City of Brno, the City District Brno-střed, and the International Visegrad Fund, whose mission is to support steps towards sustainable regional cooperation in Central Europe.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The festival was held under the auspices of Mgr. Jan Grolich (Governor of the South Moravian Region), Mgr. Martin Baxa (Minister of Culture of the Czech Republic), the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports of the Czech Republic, the Czech Commission for UNESCO, JUDr. Markéta Vaňková (Mayor of Brno), and Ing. Arch. At the beginning of April, a wave of creativity and theatre got under the skin of the city of Brno in the form of the International Festival of Theatre Schools SETKÁNÍ/ENCOUNTER.
