What About Grants?

The whole world revolves around money, whether we like it or not. So how does our festival raise money? This topic may seem uninteresting to some, but it is worth paying attention to because a lot of work and effort goes into it. Without financial support, we would not be able to hold a festival on such a scale. Therefore, in an interview with Gabriela Balská and Honza Horský, we will take a look at this issue through their eyes. Gabča is a third-year theatre production student and for this year she is the Treasurer of the festival. Honza is a project manager at the Theatre Faculty of JAMU.

Jak na granty?

Kolem peněz se točí celý svět, ať už se nám to líbí nebo ne. Jak tedy získává finance náš festival? Tohle téma se možná může některým jevit jako nezajímavé, ale stojí za to věnovat mu pozornost, protože se za ním skrývá mnoho práce a úsilí. Bez finanční podpory bychom nebyli schopni uspořádat festival v takovém rozsahu, jak jej známe. Proto skrze rozhovor s Gabrielou Balskou a Honzou Horským nahlédneme na tuto problematiku jejich očima. Gabča je studentkou třetího ročníku divadelní produkce a pro tento ročník zastává pozici ekonomky festivalu. Honza je projektový manažer Divadelní fakulty JAMU.

Ambassador

For this year's edition of the International Festival of Theatre Schools SETKÁNÍ/ENCOUNTER, Jaromír Nosek has been appointed ambassador. This Czech actor, who has acted in many theatres not only in the Czech Republic but also in Slovakia, is known mainly for his roles in the film Rebels or in the series Vyprávěj. He is a graduate of JAMU and has worked in Brno at the National Theatre Brno, Theatre Goose on a String, and Polárka Theatre. He is currently performing in various theatres in Prague. As ambassador he appears in the festival TV spot, and we can look forward to seeing him at the Opening and the Closing ceremonies. But before he comes to Brno, you can read this interview with him.

Ambasador

Pro letošní ročník Mezinárodního festivalu divadelních škol SETKÁNÍ/ENCOUNTER se stal ambasadorem Jaromír Nosek. Český herec, který působil v mnoha divadlech nejen v Česku, ale také na Slovensku, je známý hlavně pro své role ve filmu Rebelové nebo v seriálu Vyprávěj. Je absolventem JAMU a v Brně působil v Národním divadle Brno, Divadle Husa na provázku a Divadle Polárka. V současné době hraje v různých pražských divadlech. Jako ambasador účinkuje ve festivalovém TV spotu a můžeme se na něj těšit na zahajovacím a závěrečném ceremoniálu. Než nám ale do Brna dorazí, tak je možné přečíst si alespoň tento rozhovor.

Looking back to the past – ENCOUNTER from the perspective of the 2002 coordinator

The International Festival of Theatre Schools SETKÁNÍ/ENCOUNTER has a long tradition and its origins date back to 1991, when the first edition took place. Since then, much has changed, both in the form of the festival itself and in the number of schools that visit us each year. What hasn't changed, however, are the organizers of the festival, who, as I mentioned in my previous article, are Theatre Management and Stage Technology students. So why not stop for a moment and look back at the past? Through this interview with Jana Bejvlová, a 2002 graduate of Theatre Management at JAMU, we can take a look at how the festival was run twenty years ago.

Ohlédnutí do minulosti aneb ENCOUNTER z pohledu koordinátorky z roku 2002

Mezinárodní festival divadelních škol SETKÁNÍ/ENCOUNTER má dlouholetou tradici a jeho vznik sahá až do roku 1991, kdy proběhl první ročník. Od té doby se mnohé změnilo, jak podoba festivalu samotného, tak i množství škol, které nás každoročně navštěvují. Co se ale nemění jsou organizátoři festivalu, kterými jsou, jak jsem již zmínila v předchozím článku, studenti divadelní produkce a jevištní technologie. Proč se tedy na chvíli nezastavit a neohlédnout se do minulosti? Prostřednictvím rozhovoru s Janou Bejvlovou, absolventkou divadelní produkce na JAMU z roku 2002, se můžeme podívat na to, jak probíhala práce na festivalu před dvaceti lety.

The Core Organising Team

With the arrival of the new year, it suddenly seems that the International Festival of Theatre Schools SETKÁNÍ/ENCOUNTER is getting dangerously close. (And it really is.) Three months will pass like water and the Theatre Faculty JAMU will start to fill up with foreign students, guests from different parts of Europe and, last but not least, students of JAMU. Of course, the theatres will not remain empty either. Every year the festival offers a varied program: theatre performances, parties, workshops, and discussions with the creators of individual productions or V4 discussion (the topic is the cultural and political situation in the countries of the Visegrad Group). We firmly believe that for all the participants whom we welcome to Brno, it will be a wonderful five days.
